Here's a little bit of 'real' maths news: I found out my score from the Intermediate Maths Challenge! (I already knew I had a gold certificate and entering the pink kangaroo) I was one mark over the Kangaroo threshold; in other words 88 out of 135! I actually thought I'd got about 95, being so deluded about my maths ability, but I still got into the Kangaroo so I'm happy!
The pink mathematical kangaroo takes place on March 15th - two weeks on Thursday. I better start trying some old papers now!
I found the IMC relatively easy; I thought it was going to be impossible and was so nervous for about an hour before I started it. Then when I got there, the first question came to me immediately, and most of the others weren't that difficult either. I answered all 15 of the first section (of which I believe I got 13 right) and I also answered 5 of the last 10 (4 must have been right, one of the earlier ones wrong). I also worked out the answer to 16 to be B at the last minute, but decided I couldn't risk putting it down in case it was wrong - and it turned out to be the right answer. I'm kind of annoyed, but it wouldn't have changed my certificate or follow on round, and had it and one other question been wrong, I wouldn't have got into the Kangaroo.
I'm learning a lot for the Senior Maths Challenge in November!
